BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THE CLASSROOM AND THE BOARDROOM

On December 8th, 2014, 17 seniors from Penn Wood High School in Lansdowne, PA, presented their impressive data-driven change projects to the President of Qlik Americas, Joe DiBartolomeo and his fellow Qlik team members, directors from the William Penn School Board and parents. Hosted by the Mentor Foundation USA and the SACC Philadelphia, the student presentation showcase was the culmination of a 6-week experiential learning opportunity with Qlik.

YOUTH AMBASSADOR EVAN BARNARD JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST DRUGS

Our newest Youth Ambassador, Evan Barnard, had a lot to do with the record breaking number of anti-drug slogans we received for the 2014 Mentor Foundation USA and H&M Drug Free Slogan contest. This was our first year taking the contest nationwide. With a 500% increase in number of submissions from last year, youth from across the US came back with strong, creative, and empowering messages to help their peers stay away from drugs and alcohol.

One of our missions and passions here at Mentor Foundation USA is empowering young people nationwide to speak up and out against drugs and provide a pathway to healthy living. With the help of global fashion retailer H&M we came up with the “H&M t-Shirt Slogan Contest,” which was launched in the greater DC area in 2010.

WHY IS LUTHER MENTORING?

I sat down with Luther Ivery after one of our recent mentoring session at Cesar Chavez Parkside Campus to find out more about what motives him to be a mentor and what it means to mentor a young person. When Luther is not volunteering for Mentor Foundation USA he is a Law Enforcement Coordination Officer at Norad & USNORTHCOM. Prior to that he was in the Secret Service for 21 years and before that he was in the Marines for 10 years.

Mentor Foundation USA has had an incredible summer of Mentor recruitment in the greater Washington D.C. area. We have welcomed professionals from a variety of industries to our offices for Open House events and we have been all over town visiting with companies and organization who want to learn more about getting involved. Many people have stepped up and welcomed this opportunity to impact a young students life. It is time now for you to apply to become a mentor as we prepare to welcome the students back to school.

2014 H&M DRUG FREE YOUTH CAMPAIGN

Mentor Foundation USA and  global fashion retailer H&M partner again this year to empower students across the country to spread their Drug-Free message with a T-shirt Slogan campaign. In just three years this campaign has reached over 100,000 youth in the mid-atlantic region and we are proud to open this campaign to schools across the nation in 2014!
