Shattering The Myths NYC: Parent Testimony from Dr. Lonise Bias

Motivational Speaker, Dr. Lonise Bias, gave a moving and personal testimony about the loss of her two sons, one to drugs and the other to gun violence.

The theme of her speech, repeated often and to much applause was “We believe our young people are reachable, teachable, lovable and savable” and that tragic as the death of her son Len was, who passed away from substance abuse the night he learned he was the first draft pick for the Boston Celtics, she has found purpose in encouraging young people all over the country about choices and their future. She spoke about standing up for yourself and how important it is to have good people around you as well as the fact that in the age of google that  “…information is very important when it comes to taking care of yourself” and “the two most important days in your life are the day you’re born and the day you discover who you are”. Dr. Bias’ authentic and powerful message was a highlight of the ‘Shattering the Myths’ presentation and she received a standing ovation from the students upon the conclusion of her presentation.
