BakerHostetler is hosting students on-site for the second year at its company headquarters in Washington. This opportunity provides underserved students with access to a professional, corporate environment; allowing them to imagine themselves being employed there someday. Students’ energy students coupled with the passion and commitment of the mentors is priming us for an exceptional program year.Students and Roosevelt High School staff travel by chartered bus to BakerHostetler’s office. Each session begins with mentoring groups engaging in conversation around a meal provided by BakerHostetler. Mentoring groups focus on lessons derived from pre-planned session themes, such as goal setting and personal branding.
During the first three sessions, students and mentors open discussions about education and career plans. These discussions focus on goal-setting and identified potential barriers and solutions to goal attainment. Mentoring groups have engaged in activities aimed to strengthen the mentoring relationships.

Mentor Foundation USA’s Program Facilitator, Sergio Chavez, leads these sessions each month. In January 2017, Sergio will begin hosting mentee development workshops at Roosevelt High School, providing additional opportunities for students to dive deeper into the lessons while introducing them to the art of spoken word poetry. The additional time between sessions will prepare students for the upcoming session, allowing greater impact moving forward.
