On Friday September 27, Mentor USA and The Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles hosted a red-carpet reception to celebrate the winners of our 2019 Living the Example Video Contest.

The reception was held at the private residence of the Consulate General of Finland in Bel-Air. The exclusive guest list included an array of prominent Hollywood figures including Mentor’s Ambassador Dolph Lundgren.

Jena L. Fellenzer, the Community Outreach Specialist from Drug Enforcement Administration – Los Angeles Field Division, came out to recognize the three winners and show the agency’s support for prevention efforts in the community.

Our winners, Gael, Jenna and Stephanie were the stars of the evening and received much recognition and appreciation for their work to engage and motivate their peers through activities including podcast, k-pop dance, art and more. Meet our winners here.

This was the first event held for Mentor in Los Angeles, which successfully engaged people from many different sectors to support prevention efforts for adolescents.

About Living the Example

Our ‘Living the Example’ (LTE) peer-to-peer program empowers youth to speak up and out against drugs and provides them a platform to be heard. Through interactive outreach campaigns and listening to our youth, we provide the tools for them to become their own advocates for staying drug-free. The program has shown promising results in terms of shifts in attitudes towards drugs and intent to use drugs. This program was developed together with the George Washington University.

The ‘Living the Example’ National Video Contest is an annual contest that was created to give young people the opportunity to showcase how they are “living the example” and making a difference in their community. The campaign has amassed a reach of more than 327,000 people nationally.
