In 1994 Her Majesty the Queen Silvia of Sweden founded the Mentor International together with the World Health Organization (WHO). Her Majesty has always had a profound interest in helping children and young people, and when she saw a need for preventative work on substance use, the idea behind Mentor was formed. Today, Mentor International is the leading global federation of non-for-profit organizations working to develop youth development programs that focus on preventing drug abuse. The organization has grown to provide support to youth in over 80 countries, with over 100 initiatives, impacting more than 6 million children. The organization is represented in the USA, Sweden, Latvia, Germany, Denmark, and has regional offices in Lebanon serving 22 Arab countries.
To lose hope is a terrible destiny. Yet, we allow hundreds of millions of children around the world to grow up deprived of that most fundamental human right. The Mentor Foundation works to defend that right by identifying and connecting individual initiatives, programs, and research centers into one single network.
