Shattering The Myths NYC: Science Vs Myths with Dr. Maureen Boyle
Dr. Maureen Boyle, Science Policy Branch Chief at NIDA, shared a series of slides and gave a scientific explanation of the effects that drugs have on the development of a young person’s brain, and why people become addicted—there is a physical reason “…drug abuse is a brain disorder” and addiction cannot be considered merely a moral failure as it was once was.

Inspiring Students and Opening Doors at the World Bank
On February 24th, 40 students from Cesar Chavez High School in Washington, D.C. attended an enriching career mentoring session at the World Bank headquarters. Hosted by World Bank executives, the students interacted with Angelica Silvero, Head of the Speaker’s Bureau of the World Bank, during an insightful and interactive presentation about the mission and operations of the World Bank.

An Afternoon with APCO Worldwide
Authentic Career Experiences exist when “theories” learned in school meets “practice” demonstrated in the professional world. Students who had a fundamental interest in mass communications and or public relations, visited APCO to learn about careers. Also, they were mentored and inspired by APCO leaders such as Mrs. Lisa Ross, Managing Director, Mr. Brent Crane, Associate Director, Ambassador Tim Roemer, Senior Counselor and Dr. Josh Walker, Director of Global Programs.
Designing Smart Homes with Casaplex
Students from Cesar Chavez with a fundamental interest in engineering, technology and architecture, recently visited Casaplex in Kensington, Maryland, for a Career Inspiration Day where they were tasked to design Smart Homes for a fictional client. Derek Goldstein, founder and CEO of Casaplex, shared his personal story of discipline, hard work, and faith that led to the creation of his growing international company.
